Jeremy West cruised through the brutal course to win the Sunset Bay Trail Run half marathon by more than 20 minutes last weekend.
West was timed in a speedy 1 hour, 39 minutes and 22 seconds for the race, which included four difficult climbs on the pack trails between Shore Acres and Cape Arago state parks.
Moryah Schindler was the second finisher, and first woman, crossing the line in 2:00:07.
She was followed by Chad Brownson (2:00:16). Raina Rausch was second among women and fourth overall in 2:00:53. Ryan Black was third among men (2:03:19) and Amarissa Wooden third among women (2:18:54).
The half marathon was one of three race distances.
Former North Bend standout and current SWOCC runner Michael Brown won the 15-kilometer race, edging teammate Braden Walters by a single second, finishing in 1:12:03. Clayton Willett was third among men in 1:20:50.
Chelsey Seedborg was the women’s champion in 1:20:36, followed by Simmie Muth (1:37:25) and Tracy Heley (1:37:47).
The 4-mile race came down to a sprint to the finish among three runners who took a wrong turn, cutting off a significant portion of the course, and all finished in the same time — Lamont Klepper, Isaac Hasel and Jeremy Roe.
Kaylee Delzotti was first among the female runners, followed by Allison Storts and Julie Herbst.
