North Bend’s sixth-grade boys basketball team placed sixth out of 24 teams in the state tournament last weekend at Bend.
The team, which includes Ethan Amato, Trenton Snoddy, Kale Borras, Pao Flores, Peyton Forester, Jason Padget, Sam Mickelson, Finley Cheal, Hunter Reeves and Kienyn Wicks, was coached by Tim Amato and Josh Snoddy and also featured ball boys Gavin Snoddy and Logan Amato, who helped the team on the bench.
The squad finished the year 31-6, including placing first or second in tournaments in Eugene, Albany, Corvallis and Salem. The team routinely competed against Class 5A and 6A schools or teams from private schools and often was the smallest school in the tournament.
The group has been playing together since 2014 and as a group has a record of 92-24.
“We appreciate these hardworking boys and their very supportive parents and families,” Tim Amato said. “We would like to thank our sponsors, HighRoad Wealth Advisors, Conrad Forest Products, NBMC Physical and Hand Therapy, Prestige Property Management Inc., Epuerto Sports, Coquille Economic Development Corporation and Knutson Towboat.”
He added that he and Josh Snoddy are looking forward to watching the boys as they move into traditional middle school sports.
