BANDON — The South Coast Running Club kicks off the new year with the 44th-annual Bullards Run on Sunday, Jan. 7, at Bullards Beach State Park.
The event is the club’s only event annually held on a Sunday and starts at 2 p.m. in the park campground. It includes both 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer distances, as well as a 1-mile fun run. All start and end in the campground and the longer race takes runners out to the Coquille River Lighthouse and back.
Registration will be held in the meeting yurt in the campground from 1:30 to 2 p.m.
Runners also are encouraged to bring a used, but not worn-out T-shirt for a shirt exchange with fellow participants. Leftover shirts will be donated to the Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center for use for discharged patients.
For the first time, the run will be sponsored by the Southern Coos Health Foundation, which is the fundraising arm of Bandon’s Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center.
The Bullards Run is the traditional kickoff for the South Coast Running Club and a chance for members to renew their memberships and for new members to sign up.
Annual memberships are $20 for individuals ($30 for two-year or $40 for three-year memberships) or $30 for families ($50 for two years or $70 for three years). Student memberships are $10.
The entry fees for the 10K and 5K events at the Bullards Run are $10 for South Coast Running Club members and $20 for nonmembers. The family rate for club members is $15 for up to three family members and $5 for each additional member.
The fee for the 1-mile run is $3 for SCRC members and $5 for nonmembers.
Proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing new IV pumps for the medical-surgical floor, the emergency department and the surgical suite at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center.

Runners can sign up in advance online at SouthCoastRunningClub.org, or, directly, at https://www.southcoastrunningclub.org/bullards-run/
Running club members also can sign up Sunday for the South Coast Racing Series, which provides free entry into four of the club’s events: The Bullards Run, the Run of Two Cities in March, the Sunset Bay Trail Run on Labor Day Weekend and Mac’s Run in December, as well as a racing series T-shirt. The racing series is only available to SCRC members and costs $30 for the year.
The North Bend High School Cross Country Love Run is scheduled for Feb. 10 at Simpson Park in North Bend.
The 5-kilometer run is for couples, though people also can sign up as individuals. It is a fundraiser for the North Bend cross country program, with entry fees helping pay for running shoes and the costs for athletes to attend the Steens Mountain Running Camp.
The race is a fun, muddy, mucky, rope-climbing, Valentine's Day-themed event that includes trails, neighborhoods and a stretch on the shore line for the bay.
Registration is all on-line and prices increase as the race nears. The deadline is Jan. 28.
