The annual Benefit Dinner and Auction supporting athletics at Reedsport schools will be held Saturday, April 14, at the Reedsport Community Center. The event is presented by the nonprofit Braves Boosters Association.
This is the seventeenth year for the event, which has turned into a school-wide reunion for many attendees, bringing together local residents as well as alumni who now live outside the area. It is also the centerpiece of fundraising activities conducted by the Boosters organization, to support athletic programs at Reedsport schools.
The annual event nets about $20,000 each year. Organization chairperson Joe Zelinski stressed the ongoing importance of the event.
“We’re seeing a positive uptick in financial stability within our schools and, thus, with our athletic programs,” Zelinski said. “But this event continues to be critical in the Boosters’ efforts to provide team and facility equipment to keep these programs available.”
Zelinski noted that this school year alone, the Boosters’ Athletics Endowment Fund has been able to fund the purchase of over $28,000 in equipment, including a new wrestling mat and automated photo-finish timing system and software for track and field events.
“We’re very fortunate to have a great base of community and alumni support for our current generation of kids,” Zelinski said. “And this event is a fun way to maintain and grow that support. We have some great auction items already lined up for this year.”
Among the items that will be available are a week’s stay in a golf community in Indio, Calif.; a weekend stay in Sisters, including Sisters Rodeo tickets; a hand-crafted wine rack with numerous bottles of wine; and a hand-crafted barn-wood patio cooler table, with cooler inset.
Through March 31, dinner tickets are $30 per plate, which includes bidding privileges. Starting April 1, the price rises to $35 per plate. Tickets are available at Bedrock’s Restaurants, at Reedsport Community Charter School, or via mail.
