Reedsport’s boys basketball team bounced back from a tough week with a pair of huge wins last week to put itself on the verge of a spot in the Class 2A playoffs.
The Panthers topped Gold Beach on Tuesday after the two teams entered the night tied for second place, then beat Bandon 53-45 on Friday to clinch a tie for second place, pending the season finales Tuesday.
Reedsport played Myrtle Point at Marshfield High School (results weren’t available by press time) with either a win over the Bobcats or a Waldport loss to league-champion Toledo putting Reedsport in the postseason.
The wins came after Reedsport had lost three straight and when the Brave needed to get back on track.
A short-handed Reedsport squad beat Gold Beach 73-62 with relentless inside play.
Marc Chaney was out with a neck injury and Dallas McGill also was unavailable but Javier Analco had 19 points and Leo Voepel added 18. Reedsport’s other three starters also finished in double digits with Tyreece Gardner scoring 13, Griffin Lavigne 12 and Korde Parmenter 11.
On Friday, Reedsport took control in the third quarter after trailing 18-15 at halftime. Gardner scored 22 points, Chaney had 14 and Parmenter 11.
Any playoff game for Reedsport would come on the road, with Toledo already winning the league title and securing a home playoff game.
Reedsport’s girls were down to one chance for a league win when they faced Myrtle Point in the finale Tuesday.
Against Bandon, Reedsport trailed 15-11 at halftime, but only scored seven points in the second half.
