Reedsport’s cross country team competes this week in the district meet at Valley of the Rogue State Park near Rogue River.

The meet is Thursday, with a combined junior varsity race at 2 p.m., followed by the varsity girls at 3 and the varsity boys at 3:45.

Reedsport’s final tuneup for district came last week in the Run for the Brownies, a meet with a unique format at Florence.

In addition to being only 3,000 meters, the boys and girls ran together and on mixed teams combining athletes from Reedsport, Waldport, Pacific, Creswell and host Siuslaw.

Devin Lichte was Reedsport’s top boy, finishing 10th in 12 minutes and 3 seconds. Brady Dexter was 12th (12:10), River Lichte 19th (12:34) and Nick Klier 34th (15:13).

Ashley Schuttpelz was ninth among girls (and 31st overall) in 14:34. Lexi Rodriguez finished in 18:10 and Kassie Diehl in 19:24.

Reedsport was racing for the second straight day, having also run at the Country Fair Classic at Elmira a day earlier.

Devin Lichte was 194th in the huge boys race in 21:02. River Lichte was 222nd in 22:23, Klier was 235th (26:32) and Dexter 236th (27:44).

Schuttpelz was 122nd in the girls race in 24:43.

Rodriguez competed in the girls JV race, finishing in 32:22.

At the district meet, Bandon’s boys are clear favorites with the defending state champion Tigers led by seniors Hunter Hutton and Josh Snyder. Lakeview appears to be the league’s second-best team.

St. Mary’s and Lakeview appear to be the league’s top two girls teams, with Bandon’s Sailor Hutton the individual favorite. Schuttpelz could finish in the top 15.

Middle School

Reedsport had four sixth-grade girls compete in the Far West League middle school district meet last week at Tugman state Park.

Natalie Hammond led the way, placing 21st with a time of 14:55 for the 3,000-meter course.

Koda Priest was 44th (16:24), with Summer Smith 46th (16:37) and Emberlynn Logo 63rd (19:45).
