Dear Families,

The safety of your child and all children at Highland as well as the safety of our school staff is very important to us.

Part of ensuring that safety is being prepared by consistently practicing and providing opportunities for staff to build their understanding of how to respond in an emergency. On Friday, April 20, all Reedsport School District staff will take part in an ALICE training here at Highland Elementary School.

An ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Training instructor, Commander Pitcher from the Florence Police Department, will lead the training. The class will provide instruction on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event. ALICE Training option based tactics have become the accepted response, versus the traditional "lockdown only" approach. We will be partnering with our local law enforcement agencies and appreciate the help of Chief Wisehart and Officer Smart in bringing this event to our district.

If you have questions or would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me at 541.271.3616 or RLupton@reedsport.k12.or.us.

Sincerely,

Beckie Lupton, Principal
