REEDSPORT -- The first annual Wellness Fair is set for Sept. 19 from 11:30 to 2 p.m. at the Lower Umpqua Community Center.

"Number one," said Lou Mohlman, who works at the center. "We just came up with the idea. Karen (Robertson) and I were talking about it. There's no cost (to participate)."

"Rite-Aid is going to give flu shots," she said.

Plus, paramedics will provide blood pressure checks and a local woman will give senior citizens foot checkups.

The CERT emergency training team will be on hand as well.

"The Family Resource Center is going to come and set up a table with their information and Douglas County (branch of the DHS) with their information (too)."

"And we're going to have a raffle," she said. Prizes include a mixer, can openers, grill and candle sticks.

Mohlman emphasized the need for awareness.

"They can come and check out the senior center and check out a book, work on a puzzle and play pool," she said.

"Maybe if it expands, we'll do it again next year," Mohlman emphasized.
