Keizer 50th

Phil and Ann Keizer of North Bend celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Sunriver. All 22 members of their immediate family joined them for a 10-day family reunion to help the couple celebrate their golden anniversary, along with Mary Jo Fourier, formerly of North Bend, who was the maid of honor at the couple’s wedding on June 22, 1958, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Coos Bay.

After their marriage, Phil and Ann moved to Portland so Phil could attend the University of Oregon School of Medicine that fall.  During this time, Ann taught biology at Wilson High School. The couple moved to St. Paul, Minn., after Phil graduated from medical school in 1962. Here, Phil completed his internship and general surgical residency. After moving back to Coos Bay in 1967, Phil joined his father, Dr. Ennis Keizer, at the North Bend Medical Center as the group’s first board certified surgeon. When their children, P.J., Lisa, Clarice, Karen and Teddy, were born, Ann’s teaching career ended and the children’s activities and sports began. This was a period in their lives that they thoroughly enjoyed.

Phil served as building chairman at the North Bend Medical Center for all of their projects until his retirement in 1999. He was chairman of the surgical department at Bay Area Hospital and is a member of Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Ann has volunteered in the areas of music, libraries, schools and city government. A special interest which Phil and Ann enjoy is traveling as a couple, with their children, with friends and other family members. They have made several trips in recent years with Ann’s Norwegian relatives to various locations in the Arctic.

Family members attending the 50th wedding anniversary celebration were their son, Dr. P.J. Keizer of Coos Bay, his wife Elena and their two children, Johnny and Julia; daughter, Lisa LaGesse of North Bend, her husband Dr. Philip LaGesse and their three children, Laura, Karen and George; daughter, Clarice Weeks and her husband, Keith Weeks, and their three children, Anna, Mara and Ella, all of Portland; daughter, Karen Thrift and her husband, Scott Thrift, and their two sons, Alexander and Charlie; and son, Teddy Keizer of Portland and his wife, Ann Sulzer.
