Last Thursday evening North Bend pool lifeguards responded to a life-threatening situation during a water aerobics class when one participant complained of chest pain and then collapsed in the water. Lifeguards on duty sprang into action, including an off duty lifeguard who jumped in fully clothed to assist. In no time, they had the unfortunate victim on the backboard and out of the water. 911 was called and first responders were there within minutes.
Everything went exactly as one would hope in an emergent situation that evening. Kudos to manager KayLee Kocher for superb training of her staff to be ready for any emergency by always having at least two or more lifeguards on duty at all times with no cell phones and focused attention on deck. Proper staffing and training made all the difference. Congratulations team; job well done!
