I get it, Prefontaine, local boy that did good.
But for the city to spend $50,000 for a painted memorial is absolutely ridiculous! Also, outside sourcing? We are in a financial economic crunch, schools are faltering, roads horrible, local charity groups begging for funds, and the city manager thinks this is OK? Outside sourcing, why? We have many talented artists here or could have made it a high school project to show a bit of local pride.
That money and area could have been used to benefit the community more. Just ridiculous. Quit making it tourist pretty, and grant monies to your local groups that actually DO something for the communities. Homelessness, emergency and disaster services, education, a dog park even, folks have been trying to get one for years! City government using monies we didn't have a say so in spending.
