As homeowners who have lived, for over 12 long years, under the threat of having the LNG pipeline cross our property (and the creek feeding our pond), it was good news to hear that Sen. Jeff Merkley came out against the Jordan Cove project this past week. We only wish that Sen. Wyden and Rep. DeFazio would do the same. It would be too much to expect such a change of minds and hearts from our local public representatives.
It would also be nice if Gov. Brown would stop hiding behind her self-imposed veil of "neutrality" and come out with where she stands on the issue, pro or con.
We have met a number of similarly threatened homeowners who live along the proposed pipeline route. The destruction to, and the limitations placed upon, our properties by the construction of the pipeline is especially galling in light of the fact that the pipeline company can use eminent domain to get what it wants — our dreams, desires, lifestyles, be damned.
So, again, Sen. Merkley, thank you for taking a position that might end up helping take away this years-long nightmare.
