In his never-ending quest to trivialize people's reasonable concerns about the dangers posed by Jordan Cove, Jon Barton claimed, in his letter of March 13: “6. And of course, auto deaths run between 300,000 and 400,000 per year in this state.”
All he proves with that is that his ignorance even exceeds his impudence. If between 300,000 and 400,000 people were killed on Oregon’s roads each year, then the state would be losing 10 percent of its population annually. That would be, to use a fashionable word, truly “unsustainable”, and a population vacuum that no amount of migration from California could fill.
