A mother and ehre four children were killed in a collision on Highway 99E near Salem.

A Gervais man was charged with five counts of manslaughter in a collision that killed a woman and her four children Sunday afternoon on Highway 99E north of Salem, according to an Oregon State Police report.

Favian R. Garcia, 27, was lodged at the Marion County Jail on five counts of Manslaughter 1, driving while under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, driving while suspended, as well as unrelated Marion County warrants.

According to OSP, Garcia's Land Rover, which was traveling northbound on Highway 99E, crossed the center line and struck a southbound Buick Century driven by Lisette Medrano-Perez, 25, of Mollalla.

Medrano-Perez and her children, ages 8, 6, 4, and 2, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Garcia had minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. OSP was assisted by Marion County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, Kaiser Police Department, Marion County Fire District, and the Marion County District Attorney's Office.
