As chairperson the Coos County Democrats, I am disappointed that The World did not contact me or the Democratic Party of Oregon related to the story, “Dem PAC targets college board.”

The Make the Change PAC is not endorsed or funded by the Coos County Democrats or the DPO. It is an independent PAC.

Any Democrat running for any office in Coos County including nonpartisan races can seek the endorsement of the local party. We received requests from five candidates running for the SOCC board including David Bridgham. The local party endorsed three of the candidates. We did not make an endorsement in the race between Mr. Bridgham and Ms. Menkens as we felt both candidates were well-qualified.

Candidates can request access to Democratic Party’s Voter Activation Network database. All five candidates requested access and received it. They were also offered training on the use of the VAN in local elections.

Thank you for clarifying this for your readers. Please feel free to contact me in the future regarding other issues concerning the Democratic Party of Coos County.
