GOLD BEACH -- An 18-year-old man was lodged in the Curry County jail after leading Curry County sheriff's deputies on a chase north on U.S. Highway 101 in a stolen van.

Cody Pettit is charged with first-degree robbery, attempt to elude by vehicle, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of menacing, five counts of harassment, reckless endangering, theft of services, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and coercion.

Deputies arrested Pettit after a chase following the theft of a van from a 412 Taxi driver near Brookings.

The driver had driven Pettit to Eureka, Calif., and returned him to the Brookings area. Once back in Brookings, Pettit allegedly threatened the driver with a knife and drove off with the van.

Police chased the white van north on U.S. Highway 101 until it crashed into a landslide off Meyers Creek Road. Pettit was arrested without further incident.
