COOS COUNTY — A drunken driver ran an ambulance off the road on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Bay Cities Ambulance notified the Coos County Sheriff’s Office about a “possible intoxicated driver on Highway 42,” according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The 2015 Ford F-250 hauling a camp trailer nearly hit the ambulance as it was en route to a call. The near collision ran the ambulance off the road.
When deputies located the Ford F-250, they saw it travel over the white fog lines and drive over a curb onto a sidewalk near the ODOT building just outside of Coquille.
“Deputies stopped the vehicle,” the release stated. “As the driver pulled over, the truck and trailer collided with the guard rail for about 50 feet before coming to a stop.”
The driver was Justin Nelson, 36, from Roseburg. He performed a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested for DUII. He was taken to the Coos County Jail with a blood alcohol content .14 percent.
