William Russell Keist, age 82, passed away Jan. 3, 2018. William grew up in Camas, Wash.
He also served in the United States Navy and Reserves for eight years. He was a second generation paper maker, eventually becoming superintendent at International Paper Company in Gardiner. As a result of his work, William and his family were able to live in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, and the Philippines.
William then went on to become a partner with Dan Charles Agency. Inspired by his work, William set out to acquire his pilot’s license and own his own airplane.
William had a full life with his family. After departing the Philippines he took them on an adventure through India, Thailand, Australia, and Copenhagen. He enjoyed the great outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He especially loved Umpqua and Columbia River and the Oregon Coast.
He leaves behind his wife, Sharon Keist, married for 57 years. They raised three daughters, Kimberly Jones, Kelly Eldred and Kary Doerfler; have eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his sister, Barbara McClenney.
