A memorial service will be held for Susan Wilhite, 90, of Coos Bay, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, 405 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay. The Rev. Don Berney will officiate. A reception will follow at the North Bend Senior Center.
Susan was born April 29, 1927 in Richmond, Kan., the daughter of John W. and Hazel (Bell) Jones. She passed away Dec. 3, 2017 in Coos Bay.
She was raised and educated in Kansas and was married to Clarence Marvin Wilhite May 3, 1945 in Ottawa, Kan. They made their home in Oroville, Calif., until after the war. They returned to Kansas for a short time and then moved to Dallas, and then Lebanon before moving to North Bend in 1961. Susan worked as a retail clerk at several department stores including J.C. Penney, Newberry’s, The Hub and for the telephone company, GTE. She was a charter member of American Business Women and a longtime member of the Hoot Owl Group. Susan enjoyed traveling with Clarence and spending time in Yuma, Ariz. She liked to play cards with family and friends and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy and Don Wisely of Coos Bay and Phyllis Duncan of North Bend; son, Lawrence and Marilyn Wilhite of North Bend; brothers, Joseph and Ellen Jones Cicero, Ind., and Alex and Charlotte Jones Ottawa, Kan.; sister, Leota “Josie” Harris Ottawa, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wilhite; son, Marvin Wilhite; son-in-law, Donald Duncan; two grandchildren; brother, John Jones; three sisters, Eva Nichols, Mary Hall, and Myrtle Whirley; four brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
