Memorial service for Richard “Dick” Martindale, 89, of Coquille, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 15, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church, 970 N. Central in Coquille. Graveside service with military honors will be at 4:00 p.m. at Norway Cemetery.
Richard “Dick” Martindale was born on April 20, 1928 in Coalinga, Calif. to Ellis and Nellie (Jeffers) Martindale. He died Sept. 30, 2017 at his home in Coquille.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and was discharged in 1948 with the rank of Corporal. While in the service, he was a qualified expert in M1 rifle and earned the expert infantry badge. He was also decorated with the Victory Medal. Richard married Arlene (Burian) Bartunek on July 1, 1952 in Reno, Nev.
He was the lead electrician and managed operations at Calhoun Electric for 27 years, he retired in 1990.
He enjoyed many activities including dancing, travelling the northwest and Canada, breakfast with his friends at Devils Kitchen. He was an avid outdoorsman and dedicated fan of the Oregon Ducks football team. His family did a lot of things together with Richard always at the core of activities. The yearly family reunion, Thanksgiving and Christmas being most cherished.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Dawn; daughter, Lisa and husband Randy; son, Tim, granddaughters Lacee and husband Jamohl, Brittnee and Alaina; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jaycee, Zoey and Kruz.
