July 25, 1948 - Oct. 12, 2012

A memorial service will be held for Marcia Arlene (Rinehart) Rice, 64, of Coos Bay at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave., in North Bend.

Marcia was born July 25, 1948 in Portland, Ore., the second child of Delbert Roy and Betty (Gollnick) Rice. Marcia died Oct. 12, 2012, in Fort St. John, British Columbia while visiting her much loved daughter, son-in-law and grandsons.

When Marcia was 15 years old her family moved to a farm east of Sand. She graduated from Sandy Union High School in 1967 and attended Eastern Oregon College and then completed her education at Western Business College in Portland.

Marcia married Vernon James Rinehart, March 31, 1972 in Vancouver, Wash. The couple then moved north of Fort St. John, British Columbia that same year and cleared land and lived in a tent until the first snow when they finally moved into a 10-foot building with no electricity or running water. Marcia always said after that experience her idea of camping changed and camping needed to include a dishwasher, flush toilets and electricity.

In 1975 the couple was blessed with a daughter, Erikka. Marcia ran a business from her home making business letters and labels for local business. She moved to Coos Bay in about 1994 and began working for Faith Lutheran Church in North Bend. Marcia was a professional genealogist who shared her experience and knowledge as a volunteer librarian at the Family History Center; a lecturer, a teacher, a member of the Oregon Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists and generally helped others unravel their family history.

Marcia is survived by her daughter, Erikka Lillico and her husband, Randy; grandsons, Ryan and Tyler; sisters, Beverly Rice and Gary Goodson of Coos Bay and Nancy Taylor of Portland; brother, Larry Rice and wife, Norma of Vancouver, Wash.; brother-in-law, Dale Rinehart and wife, Donna of Texada Island, British Columbia; niece and nephews, Jason Goodson and wife, Tanya of Coos Bay, Susan Schrantz and husband, Mike of Vancouver, Wash., Bryan Rice and wife, Kim of Fort Collins, Colo., Kimberly True and husband, Russ of Taylor, B.C. and Kris Rinehart and wife, Kathy of Port Moody, B.C.; and uncle, Irville Gollnick and wife, Melba of Willows, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Rinehart; brother-in-law, Charles Taylor; mother, Betty (Gollnick) Rice; and father, Delbert Rice.
