A viewing for Leon Paul Ball, 82, of Coos Bay will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Sunset Memorial Park, 63060 Millington Frontage Road in Coos Bay with pastor Don Berney, of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Leon was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Battle Creek, Mich., the son of Roy Parsons and Bertha Gertrude (Adams) Ball. He died July 14, 2012, in Coos Bay.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. Leon married Cleda Rose Meyers March 30, 1962, in Reno, Nev. He worked for Georgia-Pacific and Bohemia in Drain before retiring in 1991. Leon and Cleda enjoyed playing bingo at the senior center, fishing, hunting, flowers, gardening and family dinners. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Leon is survived by his son, Jerry Coplen and wife, Emma of Coos Bay; siblings, Lewis Ball of North Bend, Roy Ball Jr. of Washington and Susan Goodwin of Iowa; grandchildren, Gene Coplen and wife, Ella of Coos Bay, Luke Coplen of California, Robert Evans of Coos Bay and Minnie French of Oakridge; and numerous nieces and nephews including, Pam and Ben Bergreen, Rick and Lee Ball, Ladawnya and Blake Barklow,David, Mike, Terri and Sherri
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and brother-in-law, Carl Meyers.
