1942 - 2017
John Paul Goldson, 75, of Twain Harte, Calif., died Aug. 25, 2017 in Sonora, Calif. John was born in 1942 to Paul and Fannie Goldson.
John proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, First Marine Division, out of Camp Pendleton, Calif., as a tank vehicle repairman. He often repeated the phrase proudly, “Once a Marine, Always a Marine,” loving his country to the day he died.
John had worked for the County of Tuolumne, Calif., in the Department of Public Works for 31 years as heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, dancing to country music, was a SF Giants and Forty-Niner fan, loved to tell stories about local history of the area’s back country, and he enjoyed listening to classic country and classical music.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; son, Erik and daugher-in-law,Erika; grandchildren Tanner Paul and Charlotte Grace Noel Goldson, all of Twain Harte, Calif.; sister, Cheryl Topping of Loon Lake; nieces and nephew, Cheryl, Meryl, Keryl and Dean, all of Oregon; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews, all of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Fannie Goldson; his in-laws, Clarence and Rosa DeBoer; brother-in-law, Dean Topping; and sister-in-law, Debbie DeBoer.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at his request. In John’s honor, the next time you see a veteran or current military soldier, step up and thank them for their service. Remembrances may be sent to Wounded Warriors, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your favorite charity.
