Evelyn Carol Madson, 99, passed away Oct. 21, 2017 in North Bend. She was born March 31, 1918, to Edward Kalouner and Mary Stengl in Chicago, Ill. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Buellton, Calif., where she grew up. Evelyn graduated from Santa Ynez High School in 1935 in a class of 21 students.
In 1938 Evelyn married Benjamin Lupton, a petroleum geologist, and they moved to San Gabriel and later San Marino, Calif., where they raised two children, John and Mary Lou. When Ben Lupton died in 1964, Evelyn moved back to her roots in Buellton, Calif., and later built a house and moved to nearby Solvang. In 1975 Evelyn married Frank Giorgi, a cattle rancher who she had known since childhood. They moved to Little Shasta, near Yreka, Calif., where they bought a cattle ranch and lived a rural life for more than 20 years. When Frank Giorgi, died in 1999, Evelyn moved in to town in Yreka, Calif. In 2000, Evelyn married Don Madson, and they lived in a suburb of Yreka. After Don Madson died in 2008, Evelyn moved to Roseburg, and lived in a duplex with her daughter, Mary Lou. In 2014 Evelyn moved into a retirment facility in North Bend, where she lived until her passing in 2017.
Evelyn had an amazing life-force and enjoyed reasonably good health well into her 90's. She loved the outdoors, animals, horseback riding, gardening, and sewing. She was an avid reader, mainly of mysteries. She had a wonderful dry sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Kalouner;her brothers, Calvin and Gerald Kalouner; and husbands, Benjamin Lupton, Frank Giorgi, and Donald Madson.
She is survived by her son , John Lupton; daughter, Mary Lou Dunn; grandchildren, D'nece Webster and husband, Greg, Tanya Costales and husband, Forrest, and Daniel Dunn and wife, Katie; and great-grandchildren, Alex and Jolene Webster, Cader and Levi Costales and Lyla Dunn.
No memorial service is planned. Her family plans to hold a graveside remembrance in the spring when her ashes will be interred at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard, California.
