A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Dorothy L. FitzHenry, 85, of Coos Bay, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the home of Justin and Leigh FitzHenry. Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay, with a private urn placement to be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park Brick Niche memorial wall in Coos Bay.
Dorothy was born March 21, 1926, in Marshfield, to George J. Whittikko and Lavelle (Klinkenbeard) Whittikko. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Coos Bay Jan. 20, 2012.
Dorothy was raised in Colument, Mich. Following high school graduation she went to Detroit to work in a steel plant, where she operated a drill press during World War II. She then came to Coos Bay and began working at the Evans Mill (where Fred Meyer is now located).
Dorothy met and later married James Leonard FitzHenry Jr. Nov. 3, 1946. Together they had five children.
Dorothy’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She wanted the best for all of them. She was the first person one could call for anything, good or bad, that was happening in one’s life.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda K. Rossback of North Bend; daughter, Ellen M. FitzHenry of Coos Bay; daughter, Janice R. and husband, Gary Jadin of Keizer; son, James L. and wife, Reba FitzHenry III of Salem; son, David L. FitzHenry of Coos Bay; brother, Kenny Whittikko of San Larenzo, Calif.; grandsons, Shilo R. FitzHenry, Douglas A. and wife, Kim Jadin, Justin A. and wife, Leigh FitzHenry, Skyler FitzHenry and Darrell FitzHenry; granddaughters, Miranda L. and husband, Jeff Krossman, Carrie M. and husband, Bill Mecklenburg and Kenna L. and husband, Jess Hampel; and great-grandchildren, Lacey, Jamie, Taylor, Cody, Natalie, Jared, Wyatt, Bayley, Lucas, Dylan, Parker, Devynne, Kylea and Kaylee.
