Bernice Riffe (Coleman) Molthu was born Jan. 19, 1917 to I.F. and Rosa (Riffe) Coleman at Riffe, Lewis County, WA and died Oct. 9, 2017 in Vancouver, Wash .
She graduated from Mossyrock High School in Mossyrock, Wash. and Centralia Business College majoring in Business management and accounting. She later took Cost Accounting in Coos Bay.
Bernice was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Riffe, Wash. (now of Chehalis). She attended the Methodist Church in Coquille. She was married to O.E. (Auggie) Molthu in 1935 for 42 years. She and her husband moved to Coos County Oregon in 1937. Her home has been in Coquille for most of those years.
She worked for Coquille Gas & Power Co/Gas Appliance Co, Southwestern Motors, Bay Motors in Coos Bay and Lawton & Joann Verger. She became the office manager & remained in that position until she retired. For a short time she worked for Honda World.
Bernice enjoyed traveling, reading, painting, and once compiled a book, called AMONG MY SOUVENIRS of anecdotes, clippings, & some of her own poetry & writings. Feeling that she owed the area something for the good life she had experienced here, she joined Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary where she worked at the first floor information desk, family waiting room, did blood pressures, Red Cross Bloodmobile and held the positions of Chairman of Records, President Elect, President & Secretary of the Auxiliary & served on the board as Member At Large. She served on the State Board of the Oregon Hospital Auxiliary for 3 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Coquille and Junior Women’s & Toastmistress.
Bernice was very proud of her children. She loved them dearly and often said they were her life. She loved her friends with a deep Christian love and they were always there for her. She always tried to “Think Positive” and her motto was “Keep Smiling” which she proudly wore at her big 100th birthday celebration Jan. 2017.
She is survived by their children, Robert E. Molthu and Nadine E. Brandsma, of Vancouver, Wash. and Linda A. Sanders and her husband, Darrell of Roseburg. She had five grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services will be held for Bernice C Molthu on Nov. 18 at 2:00 at Coquille Christian Community Church 625 E 10th St, Coquille, Ore. 97423. Donations may be made in her name to Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Fund, 1775 Thompson Rd, Coos Bay, Ore. 97420 or to the charity of your choice.
