MYRTLE POINT — A recent addition to the outside area of the Myrtle Point Public Library is a bright turquoise metal bench centered on a brick patio. Many of the bricks are engraved and were purchased by patrons in memory of family or friends. The outside sitting area was planned and paid for by the Myrtle Point Public Library Foundation, a non-profit group organized to improve and expand the current library. The installation was done by Mike Greenway of Greenscapes Landscaping.
The patio area was designed to display the engraved bricks and to provide a place for people to relax while waiting for a ride, or just a place to rest. It is also being used by people accessing the library’s WiFi connection. Order forms are at the library for anyone wishing to purchase a brick.
The Foundation is a small group of dedicated volunteers and they are actively seeking new members who would like to help with their projects and fundraisers. Most of the current members have been active for several years and are requesting new people and new energy to help out. The group meets once a month, Tuesday evening, and plans 5 fundraisers each year. The next meeting will be at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, and anyone may attend. One topic on the agenda will be whether the group will or will not host another Soup Lunch in February.
