COOS BAY— Some residents at Avamere Rehabilitation Center of Coos Bay have allegedly been sexually abused by an elderly male visitor, according to a letter sent by the facility to residents and family members last week.

According to the letter, the facility learned about the abuse on June 28 and immediately informed the Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services and law enforcement.

Administrator Gretchen Stauffer stated in the letter that the facility is working with police to issue a non-trespass order for the alleged perpetrator.

Investigators with the Coos Bay Police Department and the Department of Human Services could not be reached for comment Friday.
