NORTH BEND — A North Bend man was lodged at the Coos County Jail on Friday night for allegedly killing his wife.
Wayne Raymond Hagner, 44, was taken into custody and charged with murder and a parole violation.
Police received a call around 3:30 p.m. Friday indicating that one or more gunshots were fired inside of Hagner’s home at 2517 Marion Street.
Once at the scene, officers discovered the body of Hagner's wife, Anna Lee Hagner, 57. She appears to have died as a result of homicidal violence, but an official cause of death will not be released until an autopsy is performed.
Police at the scene cordoned off the home with police tape. Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier said in a press release that the investigation would continue through Saturday.
A neighbor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and knew the victim well, said Hagner and another neighbor had a loud verbal altercation a few days prior. He also said he knew the Hagners to use methamphetamine.
The medical examiner and an animal control officer arrived at the scene around 9:50 p.m. Animal control officers removed a chihuahua and a border collie from the home.
The Coos County Major Crime Team also responded to the scene, as did Oregon State Police, Coos County Sheriff's Office and Coquille Tribal Police.
Hagner has numerous fourth-degree assault charges, parole violations and a drug possession charge in the past decade. In May, he was arrested for two counts of menacing, a reckless driving charge and harrassment.
