COQUILLE — The Coos County Grand Jury, on Thursday, indicted homicide suspect James Jay Thomasson with various crimes, including murder, in the Sunday death of Thomasson's grandfather, Elmer Dennis of Coos Bay.
The indictment lists the following charges including:
- The murder of Dennis;
- Attempted murder, alleging that Thomasson intentionally attempted to murder his brother, Christopher Thomasson, although Christopher was not injured in the attempt;
- Unlawful use of a weapon (2 counts);
James Thomasson is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Coos County Circuit Court.
On Wednesday, an autopsy was performed on Dennis and the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the head, neck, chest and abdomen. Police investigators have recovered the knife which is believed to be the murder weapon. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Coos Bay Police Department.
