Motorists can expect traffic delays at these road construction projects. The following report is for Feb. 9-16, 2018, and includes ODOT highways in Coos, Curry, Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties:


U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway) & Wildwood Drive, MP 221.1, Clear Creek Culverts Replacement ($3.6 million)

This project will replace two culverts that convey water underneath both U.S. 101 and Wildwood Drive near Tugman State Park.

Work is expected to start the week of Feb. 19. Watch for shoulder work and intermittent lane closures. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.

Starting Feb. 27, U.S. 101 will be reduced to one lane and will be under 24-hour flagging while a temporary detour bridge is constructed. Expect delays up to 20 minutes.

U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 233.4 to 234.5, McCullough Bridge rehabilitation (north section) ($23 million)

This five-year project will help prevent corrosion on McCullough Bridge by applying a cathodic protection treatment to the northern concrete arches of the structure.

Watch for intermittent nighttime lane closures across the bridge. Watch for flaggers and workers on the bridge.

Both sidewalks on the bridge are open. Pedestrians are advised to use caution.

U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 244.0 to 244.9, Southport Slough Culvert Replacement ($3.8 million)

This project will replace a failing culvert and tide-gate that conveys water underneath U.S. 101, near the Oregon 42 junction, with two bridges (northbound and southbound U.S. 101).

Watch for northbound and southbound lane closures. Watch for workers and equipment.

OREGON 42 (Coos Bay to Roseburg Highway), MP 0.6, 25.5, & 30.1, Bridge Rail Replacement project ($2.3 million)

This project will replace the rail and nearby guardrail on three bridges along Oregon 42. Two of the bridges will also receive concrete repairs and deck overlays.

Watch for eastbound lane closures at MP 0.6 (Davis Slough).

Starting Feb. 14, the bridge at MP 25.5 (near Indian Creek Road) will be limited to a single lane of traffic. A temporary signal will be in place to provide traffic control. Expect brief delays.

Watch for intermittent lane closures at MP 30.1 (near Big Creek Road) while a temporary traffic signal is installed. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed. Expect brief delays.

OREGON 542 (Powers Highway), MP 0 to 17.5, Tree Clearing, Canopy Trimming & Brushing ($92,000)

This project will remove trees and clear brush within state highway right-of-way.

Watch for daytime lane closures controlled by flaggers. Watch for workers and roadside debris within the project area.

The roadway will be open to pedestrians, but are advised to use caution and to expect delays.

OREGON 542 (Powers Highway), MP 6.9 and 12.1, Highway corrective work due to slides ($600,000)

Because of the compromised slopes in this area, this project rebuilds roadside slopes, shoulders, and pavement along two sections of highway.

Watch for intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures. Watch for flaggers and workers.

The roadway will be open to pedestrians, but are advised to use caution and to expect delays.


U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 348, Thomas Creek Bridge painting ($10 million)

The bridge is limited to a single lane of traffic until summer 2019. A temporary signal is in place to provide traffic control. Expect brief delays.


OREGON 38 (Umpqua Highway), MP 1-42, Culvert improvements and replacements ($7.4 million)

This project will build two bridges and replace more than 30 culverts throughout the project area. Construction will continue until September.

Watch for intermittent shoulder and lane closures throughout the project area. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.

At milepost 21 and 25, temporary traffic signals will provide traffic control until August. Expect brief delays.

OREGON 138E (North Umpqua Highway), MP 0 (Roseburg), OR138E Corridor Solutions project ($10.5 million)

On Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 12-13, watch for lane closures on the Oak Avenue Bridge and Washington Avenue Bridge as workers repair the expansion joints and rail on the bridges.

Watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures throughout the work zone. Pedestrians should watch for sidewalk closures and use alternate routes.

INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 2-153, Cable Barrier Project ($7.4 million)

This project is nearly complete. Watch for intermittent lane and left-shoulder closures between Glendale and south Roseburg (milepost 82-119).

INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 119-120, Exit 119 & 120 Interchange Improvements ($4.5 million)

Watch for intermittent shoulder closures on I-5, Oregon 42 and on the ramps at Exit 119 and 120.

Watch for intermittent nighttime lanes closures on Oregon 42 due to traffic signal work at the Old Highway 99/Grant Smith Road and Carnes Road/Roberts Creek Road intersections. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.


OREGON 62 (Crater Lake Highway), MP .7 -1.73 / 5.38-5.77, Rogue Valley Expressway Project Phases I & II ($120 million)

Traffic change: westbound traffic now on the ‘up and over’ directional interchange. Watch for workers and possible traffic shifts depending on the work being performed.

Exit from the Delta Center onto westbound Oregon 62 is open again.

Biddle Road to westbound Oregon 62 and I-5 drivers must yield to highway highway traffic before merging. Currently traffic on that ramp enters with its own travel lane.

All Oregon 62 lanes will be open between 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 2-153, Cable Barrier Project ($7.4 million)

Contractor is completing last items on project.

Each ramp will have detour signs and closures will be as short as possible.

OREGON 99 (Rogue Valley Highway) MP 2.16 – Central Point Twin Creeks Crossing ($2.8 million)

Expect single lane traffic on Oregon 99 through June as contractor builds new signal and highway connection across railroad tracks into Twin Creeks development. This is a Central Point project.

OREGON 99 (Rogue Valley Highway) Rapp Rd. (Talent) to Ashland City Limits MP 14.6-17.8 Utility Work

Monday-Friday, watch for single lane closure daytime on Oregon 99 in Talent for utility relocates.

This is preparation work next month through fall that features various upgrades to the highway, depending on location. Curb, gutter, sidewalk, bike lanes, two lanes with center turn lanes.

OREGON 62 (Crater Lake Highway) Shady Cove Enhancement project - Rogue River Bridge to Cleveland

Watch for possible intermittent single lane traffic this week, daytime, as the project moves north.

Project is essentially complete on the river side of the highway as well as between the Rogue River Bridge and Chapparel Drive.

This project adds curb, gutter, sidewalk and bike lanes from the Rogue River Bridge north to Cleveland Street.

INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway) MP 12, Siskiyou Rest Area-Welcome Center - Phase 1 ($6.29 million)

Stage 1 contractor completing work. No traffic impacts.

A second stage for the buildings of the rest area and welcome center will bid later this winter.


OREGON 99: Caveman Bridge Rehabilitation Project - $5.3 million

Watch for intermittent single lane closures of the bridge at night for rail drilling and installation of new bridge rail. Westside sidewalk closed until new rail is installed.

Work continues daytime under the bridge with crack injection and otherwise repairing concrete.

Project will rehabilitate historic Caveman Bridge through Feb. 2019.

Any traffic impacts will occur at night.
