The U.S. Coast Guard discovered a man’s body near the Coos Bay jetty Wednesday afternoon.

Around 12:20 p.m., the Coast Guard, on a request from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, pulled the body from the water. Petty Officer Shaun Eggert said the man was in his mid 60s and was not wearing a life vest.

Eggert said there was no debris or overturned boat to suggest the man was involved in boating accident.

Air Station North Bend did a flyover of the area after the body was recovered and Eggert said they “found nothing.”

The body was taken to the Coos County medical examiner for further investigation.

The sheriff’s office was not immediately available for comment.
