An active duty member of the United States Coast Guard Cutter Orcas was arrested Wednesday on rape and sex abuse charges after police say he had an ongoing relationship with an underage girl.
Luke Christopher Kanada, 20, of North Bend was conditionally released from the Coos County jail Thursday after being charged with six counts of third-degree rape, six counts of sexual misconduct, six counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, third-degree sodomy, third-degree sexual abuse and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The charges stem from a sexual relationship Kanada allegedly had with a 15-year-old girl from July to September of this year, according to a press release issued by the North Bend Police Department.
Kanada will be arraigned in Coos County Circuit Court on Monday. The public information officer for the Coast Guard was not available to comment.
