NORTH BEND — Robbyn Repp of Petal to the Metal Flowers in North Bend is stepping into the role of president for Teleflora’s unit that covers all of Oregon and southwest Washington.
Teleflora’s Unit program is a group of member florists who join together to produce educational design programs and the annual Make Someone Smile Week project throughout the country. In her new role, Repp will be responsible for providing leadership to the unit and helping organize educational programs for florists in the region.
For Teleflora’s 2017 Make Someone Smile Week, Repp along with the Coos Bay Elks – an organization dedicated to giving back to their community, encouraged the local South Western Oregon Youth Association/Boys and Girls Club to contribute to their community by teaching them about what type of work the Elks take part in and guiding them through the flower arrangement and distribution process. With the help of the Boys and Girls Club members, the Elks were able to deliver 374 flower arrangements to nursing and cancer patients during Teleflora's Make Someone Smile Week, July 16-22, and will be happening again this year on the week of July 22. They worked with the kids to get them more involved in their community and show them the importance of volunteer work through this event. This is a rare opportunity for those in the community to participate in. The Elks also informed them of the scholarship opportunities and various programs they put on each year.
The Boys and Girls Club of America and Katy Perry teamed up to encourage youth to volunteer their time to win rewards. The local Boys and Girls Club entered into this contest, volunteered 50 hours total, one hour per child, and won 50 tickets to Katy Perry's Portland concert. The local club was the only winner out of the state of Oregon; each of the kids volunteered an hour of their time to some type of community involvement.
After a trip to Los Angeles, Calif., last month, to attend Teleflora’s Unit President meeting with colleagues from around the country, Repp will officially begin her year-long tenure as Teleflora’s Oregon SW Washington Unit President.
