COOS COUNTY — Bay Area Hospital has issued a warning to the public regarding a phone scam.

According to a press release, local community members reportedly received calls with “Bay Area Hospital” on the caller ID.

“The caller tells the victim that there is a way to consolidate their hospital bills and improve debt control,” the release said. “If the victim is interested, they’re transferred to another person for further details. Other calls include numbers from Bay Area Hospital on the caller ID and they try to sell medical equipment to predominantly Medicare patients.”

The hospital does not usually make calls unless a call is being returned or “if a patient has recently been treated in the hospital.”

“This is a scam,” the release said. “Fortunately, to our knowledge, no one has shared credit card numbers or personal information with the perpetrators.”

The hospital advises that if you receive a call as described to hang up and notify the Coos Bay Police Department at 541-269-8911.
