REEDSPORT -- Oregon State Police shut down part of U.S. Highway 101 on Saturday morning after discovering a potentially dangerous object in Reedsport. The highway reopened around 2:30 p.m.

The highway was closed from Winchester Ave. to state Highway 38 after the discovery of a small, black object on a sidewalk. Police called the bomb squad from Medford to assist in the investigation, though it was not immediately clear if the object posed any danger.

Officials reopened the roadway after the object was removed. Specifics on what the object was were not available.

Reedsport police, fire and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel assisted in closing off streets along the highway.
