COOS BAY — The Film Noir series at Coos Bay Public Library continues at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 18. This month’s feature is Fritz Lang’s 1944 thriller “The Woman in the Window.”
Edward G. Robinson stars as a happily married psychology professor whose wife and child are away on summer vacation. The film begins with a chance encounter between the mild-mannered professor Richard Wanley (Robinson) and Alice Reed (Joan Bennett), the stylishly alluring subject of a portrait that Wanley has dreamily admired in a window near the men’s club where he socializes. When Alice invites him to her apartment for casual drinks and conversation, he can’t refuse. Her jealous boyfriend arrives in a rage and Wanley kills him in self-defense. In order to protect his reputation, the professor agrees to dump the body and help cover up the killing, but becomes increasingly suspect as the police uncover more and more clues and a blackmailer begins leaning on the woman.
The Film Noir series is held on the third Sunday of the month. Everyone is welcome at this free program sponsored by The Friends of Coos Bay Public Library. The Library is located at 525 Anderson Ave. Call 541-269-1101 or visit coosbaylibrary.org for further information about this program.
