COOS BAY — Coos Art Museum invites the public to attend the opening reception for its 2018 Biennial Student Art Exhibit and VISION 2018 High School Art Competition, from 3-5 p.m. Friday, March 2. After 5 p.m., museum doors will remain open until 7:30 p.m. to accommodate the March Wine Walk and all visitors will be welcome to view the galleries. The exhibition will run March 2 through April 14.
This every-other-year Student Art Exhibit features artworks created by students, preschool through 12th grade, from Coos, Curry and Western Douglas counties. The exhibition is being held in the Maggie Karl and Perkins Galleries on the first floor of the museum. Like the reception, the exhibition is open to the public and is free of charge.
The last Biennial Student Art Exhibit was an extraordinary experience with 1,082 works on display representing 21 regional schools. Both the numbers and the quality of works were impressive. This exhibition is sponsored in part by grants from Trust Management Services and The Herbert A. Templeton Foundation. Come and be prepared to be amazed by the works produced by young local artists.
Also from March 2 through April 14 the museum will be exhibiting VISION 2018, its annual high school art competition underwritten by the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation. Coastal high schools as well as high schools in Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties have submitted entries. Best of Show, 1st and 2nd place winners will receive both cash purchase awards and a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College. First through fourth places, for each grade level will receive cash awards. The exhibition on the upper floor of the Museum, is open to the public and is free of charge.
