NORTH BEND — The Southwestern Oregon Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will hold their annual juried Show and Plant Sale Saturday, April 28 at Pony Village Mall, in the shop space between Sears and AT&T.
The public is invited to enter their azalea and rhododendron flower trusses for judging 7-9 a.m. Saturday. It's helpful to the judges if the entrant knows the name of the plant but not required to win a ribbon. Azalea classes are separate from the rhododendron classes. The flower trusses are judged by color, type and variety. The flower trusses need to come from the participant’s own garden. Rhododendron and azalea trusses to be judged, need to be gently groomed for the best presentation. Do not remove the leaves under the flower truss. No artificial coloring, glossing, waxing and trimming of leaves is permitted. Members will be present to offer suggestions to participants. Display tubes with water will be supplied for show use.
New this year there is a children’s division. Children up to age 18 may enter one flower truss from any garden with the garden owner’s permission. Also new a Floral Arrangement Class. One arrangement per person using a simple line design featuring azaleas or rhododendron blooms.
The Chapter will have a selection of rhododendrons and azaleas for sale with plants from Thompson’s Nursery located in Waldport, Ore., and Log Cabin Nursery located in Springfield, Ore. The sale will end at 4:30 or when plants sell out.
