COOS BAY — An art opening of Bay Area artists Gan Martin, and his daughter Ferne Martin is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Black Market Gourmet, 495 Central Ave.
Award-winning artist Gan Martin (1937-2004) was a long-time Coos Bay resident whose realistic portrayals of seascapes, woodlands and simple rural landscape scenes were heavily influenced by the beauty of the Oregon Coast.
His style has been described as regional abstract realism. He found new ways of seeing and depicting ordinary objects and scenes that wove surreal and sometimes mysterious meaning into each composition.
Ferne Martin's photography relates to her father's work of repetitive form, bold lines and bright color in emphasizing the foundation, patterns and structure of objects.
This is the first public showing in Oregon of the photographs and photographic collages that are Ferne's specialty.
