Retired for three and a half years and perfecting her apple pie for Coos County Fair's Apple Pie Contest, Theresa Parker has won the contest and now she can to "check off her bucket list."
"I grew up baking, love to bake and always have" said the 70 year-old who retired from social services of Coos County. Her secret, "the butter crust" and she said she "tried a different kind of apple this year, Fuji's from McKay's in Coquille."
"The judging panel loved the flavor of the apples in the winning pie," one of the judges on the final panel said. "That was the deciding factor. A number of the pies were good. That one was the best."
Steve Tucker Superstore gave Parker a brand new stove for her prize at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.
Once you win the contest you are no longer eligible to enter. Fran Capehart said the Apple Pie Contest began over 40 years ago with Schroders.
