Elizabeth Keaveny of Mission Hills, Kan. and Jared Basset of Coos Bay, were married on Sept. 15.
The bride is daughter of Mary Soden and step-father Steve Soden of Mission Hills, Kan. and the late Tom Keaveny. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Portland in 2012 where she majored in political science and Spanish.
The groom is son of Scott and Ellen Bassett of Coos Bay. Jared is a 2008 graduate of Marshfield High School. He graduated from the University of Portland in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Jared is in his fifth year at the University of Portland, currently receiving a scholarship to run cross country and track.
The couple met at the University of Portland, where both ran on the cross county and track teams.
The bridal party included the bride's sister, Kathleen Keaveny of Kansas as maid of honor and the groom's father, Scott Bassett, as best man.
The wedding was held at St. Frances Catholic Church in Prairie Village, Kan. A reception was held at Mission Hills Country Club in Portland. Another reception will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Jared's parents' home in Coos Bay.
The honeymoon is postponed until December so Jared can resume his running at the University of Portland. The couple plan to live off campus in Portland for a year then move where their jobs or running careers take them.
