Eugene (Red) and Marcien (Pruessler) Brown celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Feb. 20. They met at the Roxy Movie Theater, in Coquille, in 1951, where Red was an usher and Marcien sold candy and popcorn.
Red graduated from high school in 1952 and enlisted in the Navy. When he came home from boot camp, he and Marcien where married in Vancouver, Wash. Red was too young to get a marriage license in Oregon. His parents needed to accompany them to Vancouver, where they were married in a small church on February 20, 1953.
The young couple made their home in San Diego, where Red was stationed at the Naval Base-North Island. After the service, Red and Marcien made their home in Coquille, where their families resided.
They were blessed with two boys: Rick, of La Pine, Ore., and Alan, of Myrtle Point, Ore.; two grandchildren: Michelle Cook, of Veneta, Ore., and Michael Brown, of Jefferson, Ore.; and two great grandchildren: Coltyn and Brendon Cook, of Veneta, Ore.
