Donald and Dorothy (Houston) Brown, of Coos Bay, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary May 14. They celebrated at home with visits from friends and family.
Donald and Dorothy met while she was visiting her sister in Eugene. They married when he was on leave from the U.S. Army May 14, 1944, at the First Baptist Church in Eugene.
The couple has a daughter, Linda Strine of North Bend; son, Woody Brown and wife, Sherry Church of Grants Pass; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Don served in the Ninth Service Command of the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked at Scott Paper Co. and Georgia-Pacific Corp. before going to work for Southwestern Oregon Community College. He retired from Southwestern in 1989. Dorothy Brown worked for The World newspaper for 20 years until her retirement in 1981.
Don and Dot camped for many years with, and are now honorary lifetime members of, the local Good Sam Lighthousers Club.
