Winter sports practice started this week as athletes in Bandon and around the state began preparing for the upcoming seasons.
For Bandon, that means boys and girls basketball this winter, as well as a new competition cheer program to replace the dance team, which was discontinued following the season last winter.
Bandon will have different coaches leading both basketball programs. Matt Angove returns to lead the boys and Jordan Sammons is leading the girls team.
Both basketball squads will be in action at home on Wednesday, Nov. 29, against Coquille. That’s the first day allowable for games under the Oregon School Activities Association guidelines.
Bandon plays a 13-game preseason schedule including two tournaments. The Tigers host their Bandon Dunes Holiday Tournament on Dec. 19 and 20 and travel to the Oakland Christmas Tournament on Dec. 28-29.
Jordan Chandler is coaching the cheer team, which is holding tryouts this week.
