Bandon’s volleyball team has had an up-and-down few weeks getting ready for league play to start.

The highlight in the past week was a win over Riddle before the Cranberry Bowl on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers beat the Irish 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.

“We played as a team and kept a good energy and rhythm to our game,” Bandon coach Mariah Vierck said. “It was a fun match.”

Sarah Skeie and Kylie Lakey each had six aces for the Tigers in the win over Riddle. Kortney Ferreri had a strong match at setter, Vierck said.

The win over Riddle was surrounded by a pair of frustrating losses.

The day before the Cranberry Bowl, Bandon traveled to Rogue River and lost to the Chieftains 15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10.

“We just didn’t get any energy once we got off the bus,” Vierck said.

Brittni England and Olivia McMahon had 20 digs each, Vierck said. Bella Erenfeld had 21 assists. Kannedy Turner had six kills and five aces.

On Monday, Bandon fell to Class 3A power Coquille 25-11, 25-14, 25-13.

The Tigers struggled with Coquille’s tough serving, Vierck said.

One benefit of the Coquille match, though, she said, was she was able to try a number of variations to the lineup and get all the girls into the match.

Bandon hosted Powers on Wednesday (results were not available by press time) and will travel to the Oakridge tournament on Saturday as a final tuneup before starting league play Tuesday at Gold Beach. Bandon’s first league home game is next Thursday against Reedsport, the team the Tigers tied for the league title last fall.
