The Prefontaine Memorial Run marks its 38th year Saturday in Coos Bay.

The event honors the memory of Steve Prefontaine, the Marshfield graduate who held every American record from 2 miles to 10,000 meters when he was killed in a 1975 accident.

The 10-kilometer run begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Coos Bay and ends at Marshfield High School.

Runners can still sign up for the race. The entry fee is $40 for adults and $15 for runners 18 and under.

A separate 5-kilometer race for high school runners only starts at 9:45 a.m. As many as 30 teams might take part in that race.
