Bandon graduate Raelyn Freitag continues to play a key role for the Southwestern Oregon Community College women’s basketball team in her sophomore season, and had a big shot Saturday in the Lakers’ first league win of the season.
SWOCC was in a tight game with visiting Portland when Freitag had a three-point play to give the Lakers the lead in the third quarter as part of a big run that turned around a 32-25 halftime deficit.
The Lakers went on to win the game 63-62, with Freitag grabbing a season-best seven rebounds.
She had her best offensive game of the league saeason earlier in the week, during a 93-63 loss to Umpqua. In that game, Freitag scored 14 points, including hitting three 3-pointers.
For the season, she is averaging 5.6 points per game. She also scored 14 points against Shoreline during a preseason tournament
The Lakers regularly play at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Their next home games are Feb. 3 against Clackamas and Feb. 14 against Umpqua.
