BANDON — Bandon resident Avery Horton has filed to run for Coos County Commissioner position No. 3, a seat now held by Melissa Cribbins, who also has announced her candidacy.

The election will be held on May 15. Two positions are open: Position No. 2, currently held by John Sweet, and Cribbins' seat No. 3.

I will listen to the Coos County voters, taxpayers and citizens.” Horton said.

Horton said his focus will be in three areas: Eliminate waste, reduce bottlenecks, and get rid of the "deadwood."

Horton said he will vote against proposals he considers unconstitutional, against unnecessary increases in taxes, against unnecessary restriction of the citizens' freedoms and against anything that goes against common sense.

"I will put my money where my mouth is," Horton said. "I will do the job for half the salary. If that is not allowed then I will donate every other paycheck to the Emergency Management Department to be used to educate Coos County citizens about disaster preparedness."
