BANDON - Strider Kachelein graduated on Sunday, May 28, from Vassar College, a member of the 153rd class, which included 616 graduating seniors. He earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in German Studies with a minor in Anthropology. Kachelein also studied abroad in Berlin his junior year.
He was additionally awarded the DeGolier Prize for Academic Excellence, which is given to the student with the highest academic standing of their junior year, the Julie Stomne Roswal Prize, which is given to a student for outstanding work in the German Studies department, and he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
At Vassar, Kachelein was involved in ballet and modern dance, performing in the Vassar Repertory Dance Theater, performed recorder in the Vassar Camerata chamber ensemble, and wrote and directed a two-act play. Kachelein has lived in Bandon for the past 13 years and was valedictorian in his Oregon Connections Academy high-school class. He is he son of Mark and Sabra Kachelein of Bandon.
